Small Scale Workshop

The "Small Scale ICON" workshop for HD(CP)² project members took place on 3rd and 4th of November 2016 at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg.

About 20 HD(CP)² members learned how to run ICON on smaller, self-defined grids and with a spatial resolution even higher than 156m. The workshop included topics such as creating grids with specific external parameters, creating input and lateral boundary data and changing the model output. This provides scientists of the individual S projects the opportunity to test their own routines and implementations on rapid timescales within a flexible framework.

This workshop was a clear "bottom-up" initiative as the idea came up during another meeting, where HD(CP)² members discovered that they were working on similar setups and decided to share their knowledge. The "Small Domain ICON" workshop was very well received and a follow-up is scheduled for the annual project meeting in February 2017.
